This Irish Guinness Brown Bread recipe makes 1 loaf of bread, and you’ll need a 9-inch by 5-inch by 2 1/2-inch loaf pan. Start by preheating your oven to 450°F. Then, in a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, whisk together the beer, buttermilk, unsalted butter, and vanilla. Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour the wet ingredients into the well. Stir the batter from the middle of the bowl to the outside, until it’s well mixed. It should look like a cake or muffin batter rather than a typical bread dough.

Using extra melted butter or cooking spray, grease the bread loaf pan and pour the batter into it. Sprinkle rolled oats on top, and place into the preheated oven. Immediately turn the oven’s temperature down to 400°F and bake the bread for 45 minutes, or until you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean. Finally, turn the bread out onto a cooling rack and let it completely cool before slicing and serving. Irish Kerrygold butter is the best topping for this bread, but you can use any salted butter.
